The search for Australia’s top young truck driver has begun, through Scania's Young Australian Truck Driver Competition 2010.

The competition is endorsed by the ATA, and ATA experts will participate in the judging panel.

Enhanced licensing standard proposal

2010 National Trucking Industry Awards
 
The Awards are presented annually by the ATA to showcase high achievement and promote exemplars to industry and to the community at large as a means to instill positive perceptions about trucking.

ATA releases safety policy statement

The ATA has released a new safety policy statement, which sets out the trucking industry’s position on the key safety issues affecting operators and drivers. The policy statement emphasises the importance of preventing fatigue, complying with the speed limit, and zero tolerance for driving under the influence of alcohol or illicit drugs. Retail Logistics Supply Chain Code of Conduct
 
The Retail Logistics Supply Chain Code of Conduct is designed to ensure that all participants are aware of their responsibilities in the supply chain when they control or influence the safe and legal carriage of freight. ATA environmental best practice website 

The ATA has created a trucking industry environmental best practice website to assist trucking operators to develop a set of environmental guidelines for their businesses.

Among the topics covered by the website are smoke, managing waste and a range of industry case studies.

New industry advisory procedures available
 
The Australian Trucking Association has released a Commercial Vehicle Wheel Security Advisory Procedure to encourage safer wheel fitting practices in the trucking industry. Produced by the ATA's Industry Advisory Council, the procedures manual is the latest in a collection that is designed to educate on best practice in the trucking industry. The ATA has produced a free booklet designed to assist those looking at establishing their own owner-driver business. Covering a wide range of issues including vehicle selection and maintenance, job costing, finance, accreditation and regulations, the booklet is an excellent first reference on the fundamentals of running a small trucking operation.
